Ambulating a Patient With One Assistant

  • Both nurses ambulate the patient, by: 1) one nurse standing at the right side of the patient, grasping the medial aspect of the patient's right upper arm with his/her left hand and the patient's right wrist with his/her right hand, 2) one nurse standing at the left side of the patient, grasping the medial aspect of the patient's left upper arm with his/her right hand and the patient's left wrist with his/her left hand, and 3) both nurses walking at the side of the patient

  • Both nurses may also ambulate the patient, by: 1) one nurse standing at the right side of the patient, slipping the patient's right arm around his/her neck and grasping the patient's right wrist with his/her right hand, slipping his/her left hand under the patient's right arm and around his/her back, and grasping the other nurse's right forearm, 2) one nurse standing at the left side of the patient, slipping the patient's left arm around his/her neck and grasping the patient's left wrist with his/her left hand, slipping his/her right hand under the patient's left arm and around his/her back, and grasping the other nurse's left forearm, and 3) both nurses walking at the side of the patient
