The FAITH & REASON HONORS PROGRAM

The Salesian Center for Faith & Culture has developed an academic honors program for scholarship students at DeSales University.  This program has been made possible through funding from a special grant by Mr. & Mrs. Donald D'Amour.  (read more about the grant)

"[A] cursory glance at ancient history shows clearly how in different parts of the world, with their different cultures, there arise at the same time the fundamental questions which pervade human life: Who am I? Where have I come from and where am I going? Why is there evil? What is there after this life? ... They are questions which have their common source in the quest for meaning which has always compelled the human heart. In fact, the answer given to these questions decides the direction which people seek to give to their lives."

John Paul II, Fides et Ratio, no.1

The program includes three
COMPONENTS:

completion of six (6) one-credit seminars that integrate faith and reason in an on-going conversation about the big questions of life

participation in six (6) cultural events, typically one each semester, that involve off-campus educational experiences research, writing, presentation, and publication of a 3-credit honors thesis

Student participation in this honors program is competitive, limited to a maximum of fifteen (15) students in each academic class.  Enrollment in the seminars is by invitation and application only

Student and faculty participants in the program will gather annually for an Honors Colloquium.  At this time, the "Faith & Reason" award will be given to the student judged to have written the best honors thesis that year.  At the end of the year, the senior theses will be edited and published online in an honors journal entitled "On the Wings of Truth."

Each semester, students in the Honors Program enjoy "priority pre-registration" for all their classes.

Students who complete ALL components of the program will have their participation noted on their university transcripts and will receive recognition of their accomplishment at the University's commencement ceremonies.
