The Salesian Center for Faith & Culture sponsors a campus-wide discussion series at DeSales University.
The purpose for this series is twofold:
to examine public issues and concerns, particularly as these impact American culture in the following areas:
Law & Society
Science & Healthcare
Communications & Media
Commerce & Finance
Religion & Faith
as a result of the discussions, to appropriate and to share those values of university life that are consonant with the tradition of Salesian Christian Humanism.
Each forum will feature a panel of 3-5 guests, selected on the basis of their particular expertise in the subject area being discussed. Each panel will usually include a faculty or staff member from DeSales University.
Meetings of The Center Valley Forum are scheduled to take place twice each semester, usually during the last week of September and November (Fall semester) and February and April (Spring semester). Ordinarily, the forum takes place on a Wednesday afternoon (3:30 to 5:00 PM) in the auditorium of the Priscilla Payne Hurd Science Center.
The format for each 90-minute meeting is similar:
introduction of the topic, by the moderator
presentation of positions, by the guest panelists
discussion with the audience
ALL members of the university community -- trustees, administration, faculty, staff, and students -- are invited and encouraged to participate in The Center Valley Forum. The discussion events are also open to the public, free of charge.
