MISSION:
The Baranzano Society exists to explore the mutual benefits of scientific knowledge and religious insight, particularly as these are engaged in the field of bioethics. In its work the Society adopts the humble and gentle approach of St. Francis de Sales and promotes a critical discernment on the values of human life.
GOALS & OBJECTIVES:
(1) to form a vibrant community of scholars and professionals who participate in the interchange of religion and science
by welcoming as members persons from the Lehigh Valley (PA) and neighboring regions who have interest in the exploration of bioethical issues;
by welcoming as consultants, persons from beyond the region who have particular expertise in bioethical matters;
(2) to provide a living witness to the mutually beneficial work of scientists and theologians
by bringing together in dialogue persons representing both the corporate world and the educational milieu;
by bringing the intellectual and spiritual heritage of Salesian spirituality to bear upon the work of the Society.
(3) to establish an organization of experts whose work is available for public benefit
by making the work of the society available to the community-at-large (e.g., through public forums, print publications, and electronic resources);
by establishing the members as a consultative group (e.g., as media guides, policy consultants, etc.).
(4) to develop the Society into a permanent initiative of the Salesian Center for Faith & Culture at DeSales University
by providing high quality work in a cost effective manner;
by leveraging financial support from nearby corporations and related institutions.
